In daily life, many people may have come across the term AED, but not everyone is 100% sure what it means. AED, or Automated External Defibrillator, is a safety device used when sudden cardiac arrest occurs. It is a very important first aid tool that must be available in public places.
AED – a first aid device to help in the case of cardiac arrest, to determine the heart rhythm, and if necessary, to administer a shock to restore the heart rhythm.
Reasons why AED is necessary:
- Sudden cardiac arrest is a serious medical emergency and the leading cause of death. A life-saving device must be readily available to provide immediate help.
- AED provides assistance while Emergency Medical Services are on the way. In the meantime, helping the person is possible if an AED is available in the building.
- Amendments to the Medical Services Law and Government Regulations stipulate that AED must be available in public places, in designated areas, according to the regulations.
- AED devices are easy to use if training has been conducted according to the device’s usage guidelines.
